Pain management experts usually have long lists of patients who wish to have their spinal pain sorted out once and for all. IT is not an uncommon occurrence. There is always someone somewhere who is suffering from back pain at any one time. There is no other cause of most of the disability cases in the entire world. If you can help such a patient to find relief; they shall always be grateful for that. This is the kind of pain that makes them live such poor qualities of life.
People tend to pain in different ways. You will therefore need to be familiar with all the pain management techniques that are on offer. There are three major techniques you can employ.
You shall have session that last up to an hour per week with the patient when it comes to conservative techniques. This hour serves up an opportunity to do so much for the patient. But it should be clear to the patient that pain management is not limited to this hour, but is present in all areas of their lives. Patients are thus advised to employ the conservative techniques. They have at their disposal activities like aerobic exercise, swimming, Pilates, yoga, and cycling. These are cardiovascular exercise that usually produce great physical and mental effect in the patients. These exercises are also easy on the back. Through yoga and Pilates, they also get to improve their flexibility, build more muscle and better their balance. This is how they shall develop a strong spine. These methods work for anyone with mild spine pain. If your pain is severe, you should avoid such exercises.
Mind techniques are based on the idea that pain may just be mental games. This allows for some mind techniques to be applied towards this end. You can keep your thoughts on a nonpainful part of your body. You can also temporarily sever the link between the mind and the body. You can imagine yourself receiving a numbing anesthesia injection. The same technique can be used when thinking of receiving a painkiller. You can also think of a pleasant place or time.
There are other minimally invasive techniques you can consider. Acupuncture is a similar technique. It increases circulation through the use of small needles. Facet injections can lead to a longer period of pain relief, when injections to the facet joint stops pain being communicated in the body. As epidural steroid injections are injected into the epidural, inflammations reduce. Cryotherapy involves the sending of a cold mist through the body, where it shall be left feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
It usually is not easy to find what method works for your patients. Patients are different, and so is their pain. You need to keep working till you find the right one.
