Exercise and How to Manage Stress
Stress is a condition that is characterized by emotional and mental strains that are always harmful. Stress affects the mental health of a person. Many things can cause stress. Different people usually have different stress triggers. Where we can be a source of our stress. At the workplace, one can be affected by being unhappy with the job, working for long hours, and working under dangerous conditions. There are also life stresses. The causes of life stress are divorce, getting married, loss of a job, the death of a loved one among others.
Sometimes however, stress can come from inside. Meaning that one can stress themselves out by worrying about certain things. Examples of such are fear and certainty, attitude and perceptions, unrealistic expectations, and major life changes. It is unhealthy to be stressful. People are advised to try as much as they can to relieve themselves from stress. There are proven negative health effects of stress. Examples are a headache, fatigue, and irritability and difficulty in sleeping. Some of these conditions are vital. Several ways are used in the management of stress.
Below are examples of tips that can assist a person to deal with stress. Caffeine, nicotine and alcohol should be avoided by avoided when a person is experiencing stress. Nicotine and caffeine are known to be stimulants. These substances affect increasing the stress levels as opposed to the belief of reducing the stress levels. Aalcohol, on the other hand, is a depressant in large quantities but not an effective way of dealing with stress. Getting more sleep is a simple way that can help a stressed person to reduce the stress levels. This is because lack of sleep has been identified as a cause of stress. There are certain relaxation techniques that can assist someone to reduce stress. Tests done to majority of these techniques confirm their efficiency.
Physical exercise is another method of managing stress. Stress is characterized by the increasing levels of stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline. Exercise can therefore boost the production of these hormones. It is not a must for someone to do a vigorous physical exercise to achieve this. Walking in fresh air can also be useful. Working out on a daily basis is even a much better remedy.
Exercise helps in stress management following certain mechanisms. Exercise has the effect of pumping endorphins into the body. These are neurotransmitters that induce a good feeling to the brain The irritations of the day can be forgotten following an exercise session. The mood of a person can be improved following an exercise session. This is done by increasing one’s self-confidence, it can help someone to relax and can also lower the symptoms of mild depression and anxiety.
